Self Pollution Radio

Complete Information about Pearl Jam Pirate Radio Broadcasts: FAQ, Five Horisons

One of the coolest things Pearl Jam did, in my opinion, is the Self Pollution Broadcasts.
They got aired for about 3 hours playing thier favorite songs (new and old bands), playing live with fellow musicians, talking about serious issues but also joking around, reading stories and articles, calling on the phone thier friends musicians, and giving thier number to get calls from fans!

If this doesn't sound like heaven to you - you're just not a fan.

Anyhow, I realized this cool radio broadcast isn't well known enough and doesn't appear on enough internet pages, so I'm dedicating this page to it.

(Frequently Asked Questions)

2.31 I have heard other names such as "Monkeywrench", "Checkpoint  Charlie" "Self Pollution
Radio" etc. are these albums? Where can I find them?

These are PJ sponsored radio broadcasts.
Sometimes they get catchy names associated with them that would make them sound like albums.
Monkeywrench radio is actually the name of the pirate radio organization that broadcasted PJ's 7/11/95 Chicago show as well as several other dates throughout the 95 tour.

Checkpoint Charlie was the pet name of the 11/03/96 Berlin, Germany show. Other radio shows include 04/03/94 in Atlanta and 11/95 shows from San Diego and San Jose.
As with other live shows, you can get them from tape traders.
Also, listen to your local radio stations, as sometimes they are rebroadcast occasionaly.

Finally, some stations such as WBCN 104.1 in Boston press CD's of the shows to give away as promo items.
Self Polltion Radio was a broadcast that the band did in January of 95.

It featured Eddie spinning records, interviews w/Krist Noveselic, Dee Plakas and others, and live performances from: Pearl Jam, Soundgarden, Mad Season, Mudhoney, and the Fastbacks.

Pearl Jam did a similar broadcast in January of 98. Live performaces this time included: Pearl Jam, Mudhoney, Zeke, Brad and Tuatara.
This performance was called Monkeywrench Radio or Self Pollution Radio II.

Very cool way to premier 'In Hiding' [thanks!!!]. This show was very widely broadcast and included many cybercasts. Some stations dropped the show during Matt Lukin's phone message; others dropped out toward the end.
