Footsteps

Here's what a friend of mine wrote to me:

" Here's my true story of when Ed sang Footsteps to me...
On November 7th, 1993 I attended  the second night of PJ shows held at the
Mesa Ampitheatre to benefit the preservation of Mt. Graham. The night before,
Ed was not at all happy- so I decided that I would cheer him up by making a poster that read "Angel Footsteps Alone" In big purple letters :) I held this damn poster through the entire show, waiting for the perfect moment to show
Eddie-
(please note that I am a 5'4" girl) So, here I am in the front row of a crowd of 3000+ struggling to hold up a poster to show Ed.. Now, Ed had already made plenty of Eye contact during the show (it's a small theatre and he was only 3 feet away), and he had seen all the crowd surfers kick me in the head.
I suppose he felt pity on me and rewarded me for my efforts in raising the poster, folded to only show "Footsteps" ...he was really cute when squinting to read the poster, and I almost thought he wouldn't be able to make out the writing...but in a few moments, Ed went over to Stone and pointed over at me and laughed as Stone nodded his head...
Next...Ed came to the edge of the stage, and with the help of the bouncers, he leaned over to take the poster from me...Once he had it, he held it up for the whole crowd to see and Stone began the song...Ed sang the whole song looking straight into my eyes; thus, he was able to witness all of the crowd surfers kick me in the head...So, during the guitar break Ed declared,
"Hey you Fuckers, stop that" and proceeded to spit
in the face of the crowd surfer who kicked me in the head... When Ed sang
"oh...and if there was a reason..."there wasn't no reason no......"
I couldn't help but break out into tears...and poor Ed was left trying
to sing and comfort me at the same time... After the song, Ed took the
poster in his arms and walked backstage...In a few moments, he came back
and was searching for me...Once he found me, he came down into the bouncer's
pit and put the poster back into my hands, hugged me, and said "Take
Care of youself..." When I finally could see the poster....it read

"Love Lives in the Pure...My Best, Eddie Vedder"
